Our vintage concert handbills feature performances from the Fillmore, Fillmore East, Winterland, the Avalon Ballroom and more.
Singer quickly developed his readable calligraphy after assuring Bill Graham he could do the lettering for the twelve poster commissions Graham offered at their first meeting.
The handbill was printed once before the concert and presents a calendar of upcoming Bill Graham events on the reverse. It measures 4 1/2" x 7 1/8".
There were also some pre-concert postcard mailers printed that were conjoined with the BG185 image (see BG184/185). They measure 7 1/8" x 9".
During his Fillmore era, from 1969-1971, Singer created more posters for Graham than any other artist. Singer's posters are notable for his use of collage, incorporating thousands of images clipped from magazines spanning several decades. He developed a format that included a stunning variety of lettering styles, applying them in close relation to the theme or subject of a poster.
