Preservation Hall Jazz Band

Preservation Hall sits in the heart of the French Quarter, on the corner of two of its most historic streets, St. Peter and Royal. Three blocks from the Mississippi River and one block off Bourbon Street, the hall is home to one of the finest jazz ensembles in the world. Allan and Sandra Jaffe founded the hall in 1961, and by 1963, the house band, dubbed Preservation Hall Jazz Band, began touring. Many of the group's original members had shared stages with jazz pioneers, such as Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Martin, Bunk Johnson, and Buddy Bolden. Today the PHJB, led by Ben Jaffe (the son of Allan and Sandra Jaffe) features over fifteen members, and spreads the power and positivity of New Orleans Jazz to the world. They have recently shared the stage with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Susan Tedeschi, and members of the Funky Meters. They have performed all over the world and in the most prestigious venues, such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. They continue to be ambassadors for the genre, while embodying the principles that make jazz great.
