Liner Notes

The consideration for what we're supposed to have in our lives, for the ways that our fortunes are supposed to accrue or unspool, is a bit different for everyone, but there is that strangely appropriate and patriotic need for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in there somewhere. As a younger man, that desire for liberty can be a complicated one. It can be hard to achieve fully because of general poverty, but quickly, all that seems to matter is that pursuit of happiness, or the opposition of sadness.

Tor Miller, very much still a young man with much life still to live and learn from, sings about "living such a lonely life" on his song "Headlights" and he slathers the sentiment with poignant, melancholic lights, with a ripping heat to some of his words, as he gets more enthusiastic and maybe pained. While he was playing these songs live, in front of an audience later in the evening, after this session was taped in the afternoon of his most recent birthday, Miller admitted that he knows that he knows nothing about love and relationships just yet, but that shouldn't stop him from writing and singing like he already knows it all. Such a tactic is one that yields passionate displays of manic yearning and disaster. It makes Miller sound wise and still wonderfully innocent and vulnerable.
