Liner Notes

The way a song like "Leo" sounds is a little like how it probably looked in the rearview mirror when the boys in The Kickback moved themselves from Vermillion, South Dakota to Chicago. It has a way of mixing an autumnal sunset with hundreds of droning miles - miles during which a man can just let himself drift away to wherever needs to be thought about. One can just go to those places where falling in love can feel both like exhilaration and sitting on one's eyeglasses. You can feel the crunch and know immediately that it's no good, that the glasses are done for, but you're quick to understand that it's just a pair of glasses that we're talking about. It's hardly serious. Sometimes love is hardly serious and it will make itself known as such. Lead singer Billy Yost has a way of taking us to these places where love's engine is purring and combusting the way it's supposed to be, the sound of it all sitting right where it's supposed to be - between disbelief and a jettisoned burden.
