Liner Notes

When Nicki Bluhm sings, "In the heat of the moment, things can get callous and cold/But we're searching for the same thing/We ain't gonna settle for fool's gold," on "Nothin'" from her new, self-titled full-length with The Gramblers, the stage is set for 11 acts of passion and the kinds of surreal hippie vibes that feel as if they're sprinkled with magic dust. The moments that she and her husband/fellow Grambler, Tim Bluhm of the Mother Hips, write about are the ones that tend to stay hot longer. They rarely go cold, for they're banking on something almost imperceptible, uncatchable. These are the moments that get baked into a soul - meetings with strangers that, as they're told in a historical context are really meetings with future lovers, wives, husbands, soulmates. The sensations and feelings that the Bluhms portray with these canyon songs are killers. They are ravenous and consuming. They are red hot and powerful. They will leave a person reconfigured and messed up if they ever fade or are pulled away.
