Tool

Dark and ambitious, Tool emerged onto the metal scene in the early 90's led by the angst-ridden vocals of Maynard James Keenan and hard gloomy melodies of their collaborative songwriting. LA-based with a sound between post-punk metal and progressive art rock, Tool remains relatively underground, with a large and extremely faithful legion of fans. Widely recognized as one of the more innovative live bands out there, Tool delivers haunting and powerful performances beneath the gaze of huge film projections featuring strange anatomical figures and brooding images. Their critically acclaimed albums, from their full length debut "Undertow" to 1996's "Anima" to 2000's "Lateralus" to 2006's "10,000 Days" are intelligent, somber and enhanced by stunning graphic artwork. Each member of Tool has their own side project which likely helps contribute to their evolving, avant-garde hard rock sound. Within the realm of alternative metal, Tool knows no bounds, constantly challenging their listeners' ears, constantly exposing novices to the sweeping potential of music.
