T. Graham Brown

T. Graham Brown was a top country music draw between 1986 and 1991, when his songs went to the #1 spot on the US Country Charts three times. Born Anthony Brown in Arabi, Georgia—a tiny town of less than 1,000 in Central Georgia—he got his start in various Georgia-based cover under the moniker Tony Brown. After he graduated college, he played in a Beach Boys-type duo, an outlaw country band, and a full-blown R&B band called A Rack of Spam.

After those acts petered out, he decided to move to Nashville to try and make it as a country singer/songwriter. He quickly learned that the top A&R exec and music producer was also named Tony Brown. From there, he became known as T. Graham Brown. He was signed to Sony Music's publishing division in 1983, and eventually his many demos, designed to be played for artists looking for material, got T. Graham Brown his own label deal on Capitol Records. That first album, 1986's I Tell It Like It Used To Be, was Brown's most popular effort. The LP hit No. 15 on the US Country Charts. He followed that up with three more records that reached the US Country Top 40. He scored two No. 1 singles in 1986 with "Hell and High Water" and "Don't Go To Strangers" and hit the top spot again with 1988's "Darlene." His last LP, The Present, was released in 2006, and he continues to tour and record new music to this day.
