Liner Notes

Bill Neill, who conducted the interview heard here with Phil Ehart (drummer and co-founder of the band Kansas), seems surprised at first to hear that the band was still together in 1988. This is relatively understandable as it had been over ten years since the release of their biggest hits, "Dust in the Wind" and "Carry On Wayward Son," and because the group had in fact broken up for two years earlier in the decade. The new album at the time, In the Spirit of Things, did not lead to an overwhelming comeback, either, even though many fans consider it to be one of the band's best. The concept album was based on an actual ghost town in Kansas, and as the focus here, makes for some very interesting story telling regardless of one's opinion of the music itself (some of which can be heard at this 1989 concert).
