Pavement

Pavement is one of indie rock's more solid contributors. Their 1992 debut "Slanted and Enchanted" was a lo-fi miracle of sorts, planting the seeds of an indie rock subculture, and their organic sound played as if freshly recorded in their parents' garage. Pavement had an "on the verge of jarring yet pleasing" noisy pop twist that was widely accepted by college radio and indie rock communities throughout the '90s. The band broke up in '99 but left behind a distinguished rock legacy that never teetered too far into the mainstream to criticize the indie kings as sell outs.
