Pacific Gas & Electric formed in Los Angeles In 1966, and their first Top 20 hit was the title track from Are You Ready, released in 1970. With the band's name bearing a striking resemblance to the well-known utility company, they were asked to change it but choose instead to become PG&E. The band was completely reconstructed in 1971, leaving only one original band member, drummer Charlie Allen, in the new nine-piece group. Following 1972, PG&E turned into a solo outlet for Charlie Allen, and the band's final release was appropriately titled Starring Charlie Allen.
