Liner Notes

There's a sense in Work Drugs songs that there's no telling what is going to nip at us. We could get caught up in any number of things and they could all bring us tumbling down. When Thomas Crystal and Benjamin Louisiana, of the Philadelphia band sing about dreams staying intact and lasting forever indoors, we wonder about how different things really become when they're accosted by the bright sunshine and no-holds-barred wandering that can do one in out there in the wilderness. At least inside, with the appropriate doses of stimulation and affect, one can regulate all of the elements that are hitting and stirring the blood. All of those unexpected wrinkles, those surprises and scares can mess you up. Work Drugs gives us these private dance parties that act like the pills that "send us to the sky," where the nights can go ahead and run off with us. We know we'll wind up safe in our own bed when it's all over.
