Wild Pink's session feels like one enormous song containing different movements. The songs fade from one to the next, the soundscapes tie musical themes together, and there's a single thread drawn through the entire thing. With songs that are emotionally striking and deceptively simple, Wild Pink has crafted a style of slow-core indie rock that is all their own. Wild Pink reminds me of Mount Eerie, especially with one of their most recent releases, A Crow Looked At Me. In each song, for both groups, there is space for contemplation. This comes first from the generally contemplative feel of the songs, with drawn out structures and honest, contained singing styles. These are singing voices that carry the clarity and real-life weight of speaking voices. But they both also feel elegiac and mournful, as if something must be lost before any song can be written. That's not to say that this group is a downer like Mount Eerie can be. Wild Pink also contain the energy of pop-rock bands like Manchester Orchestra and Death Cab alongside some seriously inspiring guitar playing that resembles some moments of Sigur Rós. The songs in this session are beautiful, haunting, and fun, all while being the perfect soundtrack for talking to ghosts.
