Liner Notes

The guys in the Brooklyn, New York band Tropical Ooze spend most of their time these days performing as the backing back for the indie rock genius R. Stevie Moore, a Santa Claus-looking man who's written and recorded some 400 albums in his largely reclusive career. Like Moore, these guys are without a doubt infatuated with the endless combinations that sounds and thoughts can be put together in - and it must have been one of the chief reasons he pegged them for the duty. They pick up kids toys, or they stand outside a bar at closing time, soaking in the cacophony of loud, slurred dialogue, and suddenly they've got an entirely new palate to work from.

Inspiration seems like it could strike them at any damned time and it would never turn out to be what they thought it would be. This possibility alone is likely what keeps them going back to the well again and again, just to see what could be pulled up with the rope, the pulley and the bucket. With these three songs, which were recorded the same day as we taped our session with Moore, you get the sense that they would devour entire cakes and pot brownies, if they had appetites. They are songs that pack plenty of whimsy and weirdness into their short minutes, filling the time with a sugar high and a wonderful rush of tested and true garage rock sturdiness.
