The Walter brothers, of The Family Rain - William, Timothy and Ollie, find that which is lacking to be fascinating fodder. All of the many things that people hold as their deficiencies, the items and matters that they need more from - they're looking to find fulfillment of, like they would a prescription. If only they could just take their empty, orange bottles to the pharmacy for some more of the same, or a bunch of pills that will help with the chemical balance that they've just been unable to get correct.These songs - which blow through the room with some sly debts paid to Jack White - are concerned with the feelings that get felt when there's a sinking suspicion that it's not all accounted for. The love isn't all there. The emotions have gone temporarily missing and they're asking the questions, but receiving nothing but crinkled up foreheads and slow stammering. The trail has gone cold and they're just standing there, thinking that maybe this is really all there is at the moment, trying to talk themselves out of feeling such a thing. Love is tearing people apart in these songs. In many of them, it's only a fraction of what once was, or it's a fraction of what they'd always held out for and it's all causing a tremendous amount of unsettling. There's a disturbance in the context of how they've always wanted to view life and the love that they'd be living through. They've gotten into relationships and seen that they aren't all that they're cracked up to be. William Walter sings, "The taste of life between my teeth is cutting out/I feel it/I feel it/I feel the best has yet to come/This time around/I feel it/I feel it." They keep kicking that can down the road.
