Liner Notes

The way that nostalgia and an unfocused future look in songs by The Autumn Defense is as mostly objective sprightliness. The pains of the day and the obstacles that are to come are nothing more than milk mustaches that can be easily wiped away with a sleeve. The love and touches of times long ago are tendered with beautiful bounce and spirit, as if everything good, bad or ugly has always faded amicably from the characters in these songs. There aren't bouts of temporary insanity, just breezes of it. There aren't lost years, just lost weekends -- the kinds of benders that are looked at as medicine, as therapy and a cleansing, just like a good soaker of a rain shower. Wilco's Pat Sansone and John Stirratt have been writing and performing as The Autumn Defense since 1999 -- before Sansone was in the iconic American band as just as it released "Summerteeth" -- and they've mastered the art of describing life and it's lustier counterparts as a Sunday drive.
