Liner Notes

The day that Dave Doughman came by the studio in Austin, Texas, was the anniversary of his dear friend and fellow Ohioan Jason Molina's death. The songs you're about to hear are for Jason. They are meant as more than a tribute. They are more than dedications. They are painful sobs, even when it still sounds like singing. It's horrible sorrow that gets worse when the mind and the heart get to bringing back all of the memories. Many of them were good -- when the clinking of beer bottles meant communion and togetherness and fellowship. In the pits of all of us, we like to think that we could always be saved, that we would allow those who loved us and cared the most, to save us if it ever came to that. Some of us can be very wrong about what we'll let people do for us and that cruel truth, that utter sadness, can be heard when Doughman reaches "I Was Drunk" and "He Stopped Loving Her Today," near the end of this set. This is one of the most powerful moments that Daytrotter's ever recorded. Please enjoy and then love.
