Liner Notes

"Young love has made me old, tired, restless and blue/When it comes/Oh, when she goes/Leaves me here all alone/Broken bones and pocket change/It's all she left me with," sings St. Paul and the Broken Bones lead singer Paul Janeway on the song, "Broken Bones and Pocket Change." It's a sentiment that's swung like a hammer through everything that he sings.

This young man from Birmingham, Alabama, sings these soul songs as if he were burning up. He sings them as if everything depended on them. These are stunning examples of where something that comes so easily and sometimes goes just as easily can be so substantial. These are love songs for those who don't dabble in the game. These are the kinds of stories, involving the kinds of people, who will be thinking about giving someone a key to their apartment after a third date, who are willing to sink themselves all-in with a couple kisses. It's not to suggest that these people are naïve about love, they just know how unbelievable it can be when it's right and they are willing to just give themselves over to the chance.
