Creamer makes rock music believable again. Their unique style of David Bowie-esque power rock restores the importance of lyric, of voice, and finally of skill, to the longstanding history of rock bands. Full of musical references to the glorious past, Creamer forges a music made from parts of the past and the present. I was absolutely floored by Philip Creamer's singing in this session. It's so powerful yet so controlled, never getting away from the singer or the band but always blowing you away—not only in its gusto but in its versatility as well. Creamer's voice can travel from a low whisper to a high scream, always fitting the mood of the song and finding the perfect range to dance around in. The voice is a practiced and professional one, but its also full of art, delivering lyrics in a way that makes them unforgettable. You could listen to Philip sing about different kinds of dish soap and still be completely enamored by the way its all delivered. But the singing isn't the only thing that makes this session stick out. The backup band is also very tight, and each member knows how to play for the good of the song. Bursting forth or sitting back, the band never fails to keep up with their front man. As I was listening, I thought I heard a little bit of Wilco in the band. They're a personal top 5 favorite band of mine, so maybe I do that a lot, but it turns out the two bands actually toured together in 2017. What caught my Wilco-ear was this band's ability to transition between folk balladry and area-filling rock. Between lyrical story telling and virtuosic guitar harmonies. For Creamer, every second of the song is essential. Nothing feels tacked on, and the songs move through gentle revolutions that show a close attention and care to the craft of songwriting.
