Liner Notes

There's a line in a poem that I came across today that fits the essence of Bleu. It came out of a short piece that was essentially about a seduction, a come hither note, but it began with the line, "It's about the blood banging in the body." There's nothing complex about it, but it's a more complicated way of thinking about eeking out every ounce of good from a minute or second and, even if it's just appreciating some of the bad in a minute or second, what matters most is that you're not in the ground. You're not rotting and cold. You have the ability to feel anxiety and sadness and all the good stuff too. You're able to want another person so fucking badly that it makes your head throb and it shortens your breath, all while actually making you heave and convulse. It's better - anything is - when the blood is banging in the body.

Bleu, who sometimes writes pop songs for people like the Jonas Brothers, Selena Gomez and Hanson, but has been writing his own material for much, much longer than that, is immersed in the very concept of seizing the day and doing so with vigor and wide-sweeping joy. Sure, some attempts fall flat, but the smiles and the vigor used as their accomplices tend to seem more valiant doing it this way.

A song like, "You Catch More Flies With Honey Than Vinegar," heard in this session here, is a perfect example of this idea. In it, Bleu goes down a laundry list of suggestions for the betterment of general living. They are things like, don't be such a been-there, done-that kind of person and actually look surprised when someone shouts surprise, at a party that was thrown on your behalf. He suggests that you not be afraid to cry like a baby and just give in sometimes to the madness that trips you up. It's all worth dipping into to see how it feels, to see how it suits you.
