Liner Notes

Austin band Battleme has a way of perpetuating self-conflict that's much more specific than its name could ever suggest. These are claw marks ripped down the insides of people. They are notions of seeking out whatever light might be at the far end of the cave.

The people that lead singer Matt Drenik writes about, say things like, "I'm already dead, baby," and when they say these things, they're cooed almost as if they have rejuvenating qualities. They've not started to decompose. In fact, it's quite likely that they'll turn it all around. It's always the hope with this kind of turmoil -- dealing with poisonous people and destructive tendencies. One can acclimate to a lot of things, when the need exists. Getting down in a funk brings much to light, even as darkness prevails. Battleme gives us these blistering vignettes of folks who are lost, but still punching, trying to land that heavy one.
