Unusually stark and defiantly readable, BG111 was a collaboration between Kelley and Mouse. The photograph is of the artists and others at Playland in San Francisco. Bill Graham complained that it looked like a wrestling poster, to which Mouse replied, "Exactly."

Our vintage concert postcards commemorate shows from Fillmore East, Fillmore West, Winterland and Avalon Ballroom.

Print Variations

The postcard was printed once before the concert. It measures 4 9/16" x 7 1/8".

There were also some pre-concert double-sized mailers printed that were conjoined with the BG112 image (see BG111/112-A). They measure 4 1/2" x 14 1/4".

About Alton Kelley

As a founding member of the Family Dog, Kelley handled promotions for the events at the Avalon Ballroom, drawing posters and handbills. He soon met up with Stanley Mouse, and their association nurtured Kelley's success as an artist. Kelley had a natural talent for collage and a keen eye for culling and combining imagery and styles from diverse sources. Teamed with Mouse's drafting skill, collaborations became increasingly sophisticated, yet irreverent. Kelley always worked by hand, producing posters and other print graphics for a wide array of entertainment-oriented clients.
