Beck is the Everlasting Gobstopper of alternative music. Undeniably colorful and able to leap from one genre to the next, Beck has covered it all. His first big hit, "Loser," often dubbed the slacker anthem of the 1990s, was originally released as a single on the small label Bong Load. The quirky folk/rap sputter of "Loser" became an instant hit on indie L.A. radio stations, and Beck soon found himself sought-after by major labels. He eventually signed with Geffen, who agreed to let him release other material on smaller independent label. Beck has released a string of successful and inventive albums, making him one of the most diverse musical artists to emerge from the last two decades.
