Print Variations

There were two printings of this poster before the concert took place.

The first effort, 1st printing A (see FD031-A) gave the wrong date, October 20 and 21. It measures 14 1/4" x 19 15/16", and "The Bindweed Press San Francisco" is displayed in the lower right corner.

1st printing B had to be done in a double batch of 2,000 copies in order to compensate for the incorrect date. This version is 14 1/4" x 19 15/16", includes the correct date of October 21 and 22 and presents the "Bindweed" credit.

There is no known 2nd printing.

The post-concert 3rd printing is 14 1/8" x 20 1/2" on uncoated index. The Bindweed credit is omitted, and "No.31-3" appears in the lower right corner. "(c) Family Dog Productions 1725 Washington St. San Francisco" is in the lower left corner.

About Alton Kelley

As a founding member of the Family Dog, Kelley handled promotions for the events at the Avalon Ballroom, drawing posters and handbills. He soon met up with Stanley Mouse, and their association nurtured Kelley's success as an artist. Kelley had a natural talent for collage and a keen eye for culling and combining imagery and styles from diverse sources. Teamed with Mouse's drafting skill, collaborations became increasingly sophisticated, yet irreverent. Kelley always worked by hand, producing posters and other print graphics for a wide array of entertainment-oriented clients.
