Print Variations

The 1st printing is on vellum and displays "The Bindweed Press San Francisco" in the lower right corner. There are variations in the green color, which ranges from light to dark throughout this first run, and some copies show small defects on the poster's surface. It measures 14 3/16" x 19 15/16" and was printed before the concert.

The post-concert 2nd printing is 14 15/16" x 20" on vellum and bears the "Bindweed Press" credit. "29(2)" is in the lower left corner and "(c) Family Dog Productions 1966 1725 Washington Street San Francisco (415) 673-3050" runs vertically up the left hand margin.

The 3rd printing is 13 15/16" x 20" on uncoated index and omits the "Bindweed" credit. "29(3)" is in the lower left corner and "(c) Family Dog Productions, 639 Gough St. San Francisco, Calif. 94102" runs vertically up the left hand margin. This reprint was also produced after the concert.

About Alton Kelley

As a founding member of the Family Dog, Kelley handled promotions for the events at the Avalon Ballroom, drawing posters and handbills. He soon met up with Stanley Mouse, and their association nurtured Kelley's success as an artist. Kelley had a natural talent for collage and a keen eye for culling and combining imagery and styles from diverse sources. Teamed with Mouse's drafting skill, collaborations became increasingly sophisticated, yet irreverent. Kelley always worked by hand, producing posters and other print graphics for a wide array of entertainment-oriented clients.
