Ronnie Davis, mastermind of the SFMT, is a man of many talents, one of which has been his ability to present inflammatory material in a barely civilized format that forces his audience to toss about ideas, not chairs. This July, 1965 'Minstrel Show, or Civil Rights in a Cracker Barrel,' a series of skits with themes taken from the daily newspapers and performed by an integrated cast in blackface, benefited SNCC and MFDP. SNCC had recently grown from a Southern issue group to a bona-fide national civil rights force. MFDP, via its challenge for black Mississippians at the 1964 Democratic National Convention, set the DNC straight regarding the inclusion of black voters.
