Since their inception in 1983, Phish has accumulated a staggering number of cover songs in their expansive repertoire. This Phish Covers in Reverse playlist presents a selection of those tunes performed, in most cases, by the original artists, although some of the more traditional ones like 'Corrina,' 'Timber,' and 'Crossroads' are interpretations, and, as mentioned at the beginning of the Manfred Mann track here, "Quinn the Eskimo" is a Dylan song.
On a personal note, I can't thank Phish enough for turning me on to so much great new music since I started listening to them in high school (and also thanks to Mr. Cheapo's of Mineola, NY for having the tapes). I first heard of many of the artists on this mix thanks to Phish's covers (including "Sneakin' Sally," the opener at my first show), and became interested in exploring bluegrass, jazz, and funk because of them as well. Here's to whatever's next....
