Liner Notes

New Orleans native Davell Crawford is a pianist known, in fact, as The Piano Prince of New Orleans. A prodigy, he tells us he first played professionally at the age of 8! He is the grandson of James "Sugarboy" Crawford, composer of "Iko Iko (Jock-a-mo)" and a pioneer of the New Orleans R&B scene in the 1950s, a relation that means Davell was raised surrounded by great music. He is a musical force to be reckoned with in his own right: a performance career with great early success, then taking a break to teach music and artistic expression to children of all ages in his beloved New Orleans. In the wake of Katrina, Davell reignited his passion and calling as a performer, taking to the road with his powerful and soulful vocals and versatile musicianship on a wide range of instruments. In this Vault Session, Davell's energy and charisma explode filling the room with an ambiance we wanted you to hear in its most organic, amazing and unfiltered way.
