The problem that we find ourselves having to solve more than any other has to do with proximity. It's everything to do with closeness, with the tenderness that could come from such closeness. There's an overwhelming need to get to it, to possess it with exclusivity. We want it all, just for the controlling power that it gives us. When we have those feelings of needing to be with someone, we cannot control ourselves when there's no solving it. We burn from the inside out and no amount of water can douse those wildfires. They will go until the hit the ocean, stopping for no man.

Most love stories hinge on getting someone to stay or figuring out how to get rid of someone (and in that case, they're dealing with how to hold and keep the person trying to get rid of them). It's all impossible to keep up with, but it's scary true that the heart wants what the heart wants and usually it manhandles and rolls over onto what it wants.

Colorado songwriter Mike Clark writes songs that sound sweeter than sour. They give off the feeling that his love is healthy, but it's still so damned hungry. It's blazing and demanding. He gives off that pacing the floor, screaming at the skies neediness vibe that the greatest of the old school soul and blues singers gave off, as if there was nothing else than some soft touch to be had. It was all there was. It was everything that was and is needed. They'll be wayward until they fill that yearning. They'll be wayward for a while.
