The Council of Civic Unity, one of several Bay Area groups focused on civil rights issues, was the recipient of a benefit concert appropriately scheduled on the birthday of the father of the Emancipation Proclamation himself, Abraham Lincoln. The Grateful Dead received top billing, but were still six months away from releasing their first album.

Our vintage concert handbills feature performances from the Fillmore, Fillmore East, Winterland, the Avalon Ballroom and more.
