Rock & Roll legend Chuck Berry played the first of his many shows for Bill Graham at this concert. A voluptuous Eve and serpent coil in uneasy truce, and the lettering demands serious concentration to discern the concert details.
Our vintage concert postcards commemorate shows from Fillmore East, Fillmore West, Winterland and Avalon Ballroom.
The 1st printing of the postcard was printed before the concert and has a "West Coast Lithograph" credit on the reverse. It measures 4 5/16" x 7 7/8".
The 2nd printing was produced after the concert and has a "Creative Lithograph" credit on its reverse. It measures 4 7/8" x 7 7/8".
When the Avalon Ballroom and Bill Graham's Fillmore Auditorium began to hold weekly dance concerts, Wilson was called upon to design the posters. He created psychedelic posters from February 1966 to May 1967, when disputes over money severed his connection with Graham. Wilson pioneered the psychedelic rock poster. Intended for a particular audience, "one that was tuned in to the psychedelic experience," his art, and especially the exaggerated freehand lettering, emerged from Wilson's own involvement with that experience and the psychedelic art of light shows.
